"I Could Have Watched All Night"

Yes, I broke down and watched (primarily because it made $1 shelf at the Family Video) and I admit:  I enjoyed it.  I know a lot of people who go bat shit crazy for this show, but I was a bit of a hater.  I  stayed away because I only seen a few moments playing in that same Family Video.  While I was browsing the 2/$1 section it seemed as though every other word was sung;  I thought it had to be the most annoying show ever.  Now that I've watched all the episodes on DVD,  I've found they are usually singing for a reason in a real setting - unlike musicals which burst into song at random.  Still, the show can be too much and I did find myself skipping through a few horrific pop songs I don't know or care to hear.  But, despite some uncomfortable moments, I found myself charmed.  Jane Lynch is always hilarious.  Always.  Most of all, I am an absolute sucker for unrequited or unavailable love in print or film.

Glee features an ensemble cast with more than a few couples to fall for, but Obsessive-Compulsive and adorable guidance counselor Emma Pillsbury's love for Spanish teacher and Glee Club director, Will Shuester makes the show for me.  The tension between these two leading to the "finale" or 13th episode of Season 1 kept me glued to the couch - even though that same couch was located in a room in need of some serious attention of the cleaning variety.  Emma would not approve of my slovenly ways, but I couldn't help finishing the whole season.  And it totally paid off -  I haven't felt as emotional about a singe television scene (with the exception of the vending machine reunion scene on the Lost Finale...) since the Season 2 Finale of the American office.

However, the longing which makes the storyline so powerful is also invariably a double-edged sword for television.  You can't maintain it forever and if you give in, you can kill it.  (Which is why the office just switched gears to an Andy/Receptionist storyline and gave Jim and Pam a sometimes boring but functional adult relationship, and hooray for that.)

Apparently there are nine more episodes of Glee beyond those I just watched in a marathon of slothful giddiness, and apparently there are many bumps in the road for these two - but this scene alone (and honestly this love story) is what made Glee for me.  And if the romance gets weird or goes downhill from this point I can handle it - this was a great moment.  And not if, but when the song and dance gets to be too much, there's always fast forward.

Project Runway Season 7

It's like reconnecting with an old friend.  I am completely and utterly serious.  On top of that, watching a new season without shelling out money for cable makes me even happier, thank you hulu and lifetime.com!  As for the actual season - absolutely nothing shocking so far - no hookups, no cheaters, no real fights.  I haven't bothered to learn some contestants names, but I still get excited to watch (ok, sometimes skim) a new episode.  The bad news - no one this season is funny, at all (well, Anthony usually mildly amusing, but he is the editors' go-to for commentary, and he's no Jay or Santino).  The good news  - some designers are very strong - they have a POV and strong construction skills.  My money's on Emilio for the Final 3 - but I still don't have a favorite.  Amy is pretty cool, young and talented, and holding her own and winning a challenge.   The producers/editors of Project Runway really want the viewer to think Mila is a "villian" no one else likes.  She (Mila) wants the viewer to think they don't like her because they are jealous of her mad skills... seems to me like some tv execs are wishing and praying for the return of  Season One Wendy-esque manipulations.  But in reality they can't have much drama to work with (which is half the fun).  It's all pretty beige and boring at this point, just like Mila's dress for Heidi.  Hey-o!

"Dead Until Dark" - Charlaine Harris - 2001

So, I went on a total bender at the library. I decided I wanted to read the Sookie Stackhouse books, because people have been telling me I would love "True Blood" - the HBO show based on the Charlaine Harris mystery novels. So, I checked out every one I could find, and went out and bought the first installment, "Dead Until Dark." I finished the novel the night before I borrowed the show on DVD from a friend. I see many hours being consumed in the next week or two, well who am I kidding, I got the DVD on Monday, and I'm already on episode 6! It's sweet, it follows the first book, but adds a great character in Tara, Sookie's best friend, and rounds out some people only mentioned in the novel, like the flamboyant short order cook Lafayette. It's graphic and dark, but still surprisingly funny. I'm hooked.

Strange Dream

I had a dream about teeth this morning, which always sucks and freaks me out. In this one I kept losing my front bottom ones while I was waiting for the dentist, who just happened to be John Spencer, that is Chief-of-Staff and near VP Leo McGarry from TV's "The West Wing." RIP, sir.

Grey Gardens fans do not fear!

Wow.

I've only seen the first half courtesy of Kate & Davis's dvr - but, wow, I can only say one thing: I was wrong.

I said Drew Barrymore!??? (while making snooty puke face)...and said, what the fuck are they thinking? (and I like Drew Barrymore as an actress, so if I'm saying this, imagine what haters were saying!)

I was wrong, she nails it, so does Jessica Lange - and the makeup is phenomenal (Oscar worthy, I guess Emmy worthy since this was made for HBO).

While nothing compares to the fabulous and heartbreaking documentary, this film adaptation showcases all you love about Big and Little Edie - and shows you some of their life before the decay.

Two words - Chairman Meow! Get ready for it!

I love made for TV movies!

It's been years since I'd seen this movie - it originally aired on ABC Family, I saw it once and loved it! Not only does this movie star Emma Caulfield (Anya from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) it features Bradley Cooper as a quintessential nice guy. In fact, he's such a good guy in this movie, it's hard to see him playing a jerk in anything else. "I Want to Marry Ryan Banks" takes a tongue-in-cheek look at reality dating programs like the Bachelor and the love story is sweet and strangely believable. So pumped it was on TV again recently and I happened to see it!
