Distract me please.

Didn't go to school today. Just didn't think I could handle it. And I really, really do not do public displays of sadness.

Thank you to everyone who expressed their condolences. You're all so kind. I'm gonna be out of sorts the next few days, but I'll be fine eventually.

I'll be spending the whole of tonight watching Toy Story 1 and 2 on PPS. IF you can believe it, I've NEVER seen Toy Story before. So after this ppl can stop giving me the OMGWTFBBQ face.

And it gives my mind something else to focus on, thank God.

I changed my blog layout, in case you're blind and didn't notice (which is funny cause then you wouldn't even be able to read this. Omg just ignore me I'm blathering). I had drafted a whole bright and cheerful post to match it but of course now that seems inappropriate. Just look around and let me know what you think.

I like to be distracted. It's completely underrated as a coping method. You just have to keep on distracting yourself and not stop for even a moment.

Ah ma, I know I've never been your favourite, but you're the only grandmother I really have. Wherever you are, I'll miss you. Please help mummy and ah chee to stay strong. And say hello to ah kong for us.

I never got to show you this, but now you can see it from heaven.

I'm breaking up with chocolate.

Starting NOW!

My acne (face la, not bum) is getting slightly outta hand. I don't know if it was the stress from school or the tests earlier in the month or what that pulled the trigger, but my face seems to be popping out raging zits faster than Octomom is popping out babies!!

As if I'm going to show you a photo of my zitty face! From now on, I'm going to perpetually wear concealer whenever I go out to shield the world from my nasty pimples. See how considerate I am?? Concealer is a GODSEND.

In case you don't know (what planet have you been living on?!), this crazy chick Nadya Suleman has 14 toddlers, she had 8 of them at the same time: octuplets. Go Google Octomom.

And I'm officially sick of it. Wouldn't you be too?

Heck, even my canggih-sounding twice daily 3-step skincare regimen doesn't seem to be holding a candle to my zits :( I'm running out of ideas so as a last resort, I'm taking Jai's advice and cutting out chocolate completely from my diet.

For one whole month. 30 days. Count it.

And not just Cadbury and Kinder Bueno and Patchi. Nah, that's child's play. But chocolate chip cookies, chocolate cake, chocolate eclairs, chocolate ice-cream, Koko Krunch (I don't even eat that, but whatever).

Anything that's dark brown in colour and looks as though it has chocolate in it is going, going, GONE!

Bar chocolate.

Box chocolates.

Hershey's Kisses.

Kinder Bueno.

Box chocolates.

Cadbury Milk Tray.

Chocolate chip cookies.

Milo cookies with Koko Krunch ears, so cute!

Koko Krunch.

Frosted chocolate brownies.

Cheezbox's chocolate something-something?

Chocolate lava cake.

Chocolate coffee cake.

Chocolate cheese cake.

Chocolate eclairs.

Chocolate Dunkin' Donut.

Oreo Krispy Kremes! Kns, I've never had the good fortune to eat Krispy Kremes before in my life :(

Chocolate fondue fountain.

Hot chocolate.

Excapade Sushi's Rocky Road mocktail.

Chocolate peanut butter fudge sundae. Omg, this looks soooo sinful and there's even the recipe online. *drools*

Swensen's Sticky Chewy Chocolate sundae.

I'm sorry, there's only one word to describe all the decadent chocolate photos. If you know me, I think you'll know what I'm going to say: ORGASMIC! Hmm, I hope I've sufficiently tempted you to grab the nearest chocolatey food you can find :D

This is gonna be damn hard cause I looove chocolate. And it could even turn into a vicious cycle, i.e. wanting chocolate, realizing I can't have it, severe chocolate withdrawal and depression, stress, more acne, going in search of chocolate to abate my stress, realizing I can't have it... well, you see where this is going.

FML!!! Ugh, see the kind of sacrifices I make in the name of vanity?!

This better work or else I'll just be giving up one of the best foods in the world for no good reason at all. I think I'm beginning to crave chocolate already as I type this. Oopsie :)

Must. Resist!

P/S: I'm sure by now you've noticed my new blog layout for the month of April! :) Changed it really fast, I didn't even need to temporarily close down my blog. I hope you like it. No pink, so you pink-haters can rejoice for a month. Actually, even I was sick of the pink for 2 months. April 2010, boy that was fast!

What Photoshop does for Xiaxue!

Bah, I also kepoh max wanna blog about Xiaxue's solemnization! Really such a big hullaballu over just a solemnization. You know where my sister's solemnization took place?? In the Civil Registration office then after that go home tidur!!

Eh wait...

Solemnization is the one got rings and I-do whatever nonsense kah? Ok fine, then my sister's took place in a church. After that, a semi-fancy lunch. LOL!! Sorry, little confused.

Anywhooo, I was looking at all her wedding photos on her blog (just like about 30,000 other internet junkies out there I suppose) then I actually bothered to click on the extra photo links she provided, which reveal un-Photoshopped wedding photos on the official photographers' blogs!

In my honest opinion, the real photos are much funner to look at! No, not because I wanna go "hohoho, she's so hideous irl!" cause I happen to already know that and like her despite it.

But because you get a feeling that what you're looking at is real and true and not just a vain fallacy. I'd prefer looking at real, ugly photos rather than fake, pretty ones any day. I don't like to feel cheated. But that's just me.

(Which is why I stopped Photoshopping months ago. And because it's also extremely bleeping tedious T_T)

Compare this (so chio hor!)...
A fake Photoshopped (by her) photo of Xiaxue at her solemnization to...

This...
The real actual photo without any touch-ups, after being tended to by "the best make up artist in sg. If you are lucky enough to know the two of them [Clarence Lee and Keith Png, her dress designer] together they have the power to make you look fucking gorgeous!!! LOLOL" - Text credited to Xiaxue's blog.

Another one...

(I've realized through training that all you really need to do is fix your jawline and it'll improve your whole look very significantly.)

Now will people finally start believing that she Photoshops herself silly and isn't actually that gorgeous at all?! I mean, she unabashedly admits it for everyone to read, except that most people are usually so gobsmacked by her fake beauty that they don't bother reading captions.

(I have a personal vendetta against people who don't read captions. Sorry lol.)

And still there are people reluctant to believe me when I inform them that her photos are not real. Haiyah, this is why got what some fucking Nigeria scam can happen la, too many gullible people in this damn world wtf!

She does already look much prettier than her usual self cause after all it is her wedding day (sort of), but the Photoshop before and after's are still plenty shocking!

Amazing right? From this...

You can become this. A quintessential Asian Barbie doll.

Now you know what a little (or a lot) of Photoshop can do for you and just how powerful a tool it is to master :D

(Wow, I almost sound like an advert for Adobe Photoshop.)

Don't ever believe what you see. On the internet and in magazines, photos can be so, so deceiving.

Her solemnization is so chio though! Pity no church, but the Italian Mafia theme is such a cool and creative idea. Trust Xiaxue to be anything but ordinary, even where her wedding is concerned!

For more of her "real" solemnization photos, go to the photographers' blogs HERE and HERE. I'm surprised she didn't threaten the photographers with her big guns not to display any un-Photoshopped photos, lol! Cause very seldom do you ever get to see any real photos of her.

Though I guess when blogging is your entire career, like it is for Xiaxue, the perfect image is everything.

Anyway, this is the reason why I don't feel jealous of Xiaxue very often. Yes, she's blessed with love, riches, fame and kickass blogging skills. But God balanced it out by throwing in some less-than-ideal looks. Maybe sometimes you really just can't have it all?

P/S: For people who love to misinterpret, the tone of this post is not spiteful, it's supposed to be informative. And I suppose a tiny bone for all the girls out there who are jealous of Xiaxue's money, love and beauty. I'm a regular reader and in some aspects she is truly beyond lucky. Wishing the Asian queen of blogging a long and happy marriage!

P/P/S: Are you a blogger too? Have you noticed that lately much fewer posts than usual are showing up on the main page of your blog? Maybe even only 1 or 2? This, friends and foes, is the work of Auto-Pagination!

As long as you have a Blogspot blog, big or small, new or old, you are gonna be affected by the new Auto-Pagination restriction, whether in a good or bad way. Most bloggers as of right now hate Auto-Pagination. Anything with the word "automatic" can't be good when it involves blogs.

For me, Auto-Pagination sucks balls. I was doing just fine without Auto-Pagination, and now I have a stunted main page, and my poor readers (those who bother) need to keep clicking Older Posts. And what's gonna happen if I wanna change to the Classic HTML template?! :(

If you care at all about your blog, I suggest you read up about Auto-Pagination as much as you can (I've provided links), then figure out how it's affecting you and if you like it or not. And then decide what you're gonna do about it. Good luck!

Links from Blogger Buzz and The Real Blogger Status provide information only. If you want to hear opinions and find out how AP will affect your blog and what you can do about it, the Blogger Help Forum links are what you want.

Time for a change.

Yes, a new blog URL! I guess I changed it because I think this new one is more relevant to me right now. I was really a different person, and a different blogger, when I started MarsArmy-Girl.blogspot.com.

To my fellow bloggers, kindly update my link on your blog as soon as possible.

And a brand new layout! It's red and pink for the combination of Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day this February :)

Nah see, this time I have a valid reason for all the pink, so you guys cannot complain! Mwahahahaha!

The background is from Shel's Scraps, and the original header is from Allie Brown's Layouts (before I butchered personalized it). Other design elements from Shabby Blogs and Shabby Princess.

Like I always say, although the step-by-step making and changing my blog layout is so tedious and tiring, it always becomes worth it in the end. And then 1 month later, I repeat the whole process :P

Something I also changed recently are my hit counters. I still keep my old Stat Counter one, which is invisible, but I added a few chio ones from Domino Counter (the one Xiaxue uses) that show how many hits I get a day and how many readers there are currently.

I guess that's about it. Happy February, guys!

Farewell 2009.

Happy New Year's Eve!

Well here it is, my last blog post of the year.

Christmas is over, resolutions have been made and it's time to hail in the new year. What better way to do that than with a spanking new blog layout?

2009 has taught me so many things...
  • To have faith because wishes do come true... sometimes;
  • Your life can change forever for good or bad in just a few seconds based on one single decision, a decision you may celebrate, or regret;
  • Love is hard and messy and maybe I'll wait;
  • There's always a first time, again, good or bad;
  • I don't have to do my best and things will still be alright;
  • Making new friends can be so worth it;
  • Being nice pays off;
  • I can be so committed and go to the ends of the earth when I want something;
  • I'm selfish and jealous, please understand that it's just my nature;
  • Good and bad things happen when you least expect them to;
  • Not everything goes your way and you just have to accept it and know when to let go, regrets are useless;
  • Being a powerless bystander in your own life and seeing, knowing, that somebody else calls the shots, sucks plain and simple;
  • Friendships should always be treasured;
  • If you see an opportunity, take it and think later, because chances go by so so fast;
  • I like wanting what I can't have, even if I'm too scared to follow through when the time comes;
  • I'm growing up fast and leaving childhood behind and maybe, just maybe, I'm ready for the transition. I may even be looking forward to the future and a change of view. Maybe I have changed. Or maybe I've just peeled away the outer layers to reveal what's been inside all along.
Okay, I'm sure there's more but I can't be arsed to crack my head and think.

2009 has been a good year, and a bad year. One that passed way too fast. Lost chances and broken friendships, sacrifices, secrets, regret and tears, mixed with forbidden love, newfound and rediscovered friends, hobbies and passions found, and a lot of great times along the way.

So many unexpected things came knocking, and I had some of the best, and worst times of my life. To say it was a pivotal and defining year would be an understatement. It was... an adventure. I think, in the end, I finally let myself be me. I'm finally free.

When the clock strikes 12 tonight, watch the fireworks in the sky and the year will be over. Say your last goodbyes to 2009. It'll be a whole new year. Square your shoulders and face it head on. Decide that it will be a good year, better than the last.

2010. What do you have in store for me? Who will I meet? Who will I gain, and who will I lose? What will I do? What challenges will I face? What decisions will I have to make? Will there be more laughs, or more tears?

Only time will tell. Life is tough, but I think I'm tougher. Bring it on, 2010 (I think?).

In the spirit of Christmas.

I have a chio new Christmas layout exactly 20 days before Christmas! A very big thank you and loads of credit to My Style Backgrounds, run by blogger Mikelle which has some really gorgeous stuff, and Shabby Princess.

I worked hard on the layout for the past few days, and I must say, I'm loving it. It's so colourful and Christmassy. The end result is always worth the effort, even if I can't have the original layout I wanted.

I think Christmas is the one time of the year that I'll be kind and not subject my readers to a pink-dominated layout. Spirit of Christmas and all that, y'know? :D

The only new feature I added is the post labels. I've discovered that blogs with labeled blog posts are much easier for me to browse, so I guess the same must be true for other readers too. Some bloggers label their posts, but don't display a list of labels on their blog. I don't really understand the point of that.

So I decided to add post labels and a label list to my blog. They were a bitch to make, had to edit all my posts, but all for the sake of my readers :) And I changed my pink crown browser icon to red and white to look like a Santa Claus hat.

As usual, I'm having problems with the custom fonts T_T So bloody frustrating. But I'm hoping to work it out in the next few days.

P/S: Just woke up from the most scandalously wonderful dream! :D

More experiments with Konad.

This post is gonna be a pretty short one.

Today is Mrs Manik's sweet 16th birthday! :D:D HAPPY BIRTHDAY MRS MANIK!! We sang the birthday song and ate cake in class and took photos, but Aaron Sia refused to dance the Super Junior 'Sorry Sorry' dance and moonwalk for us! D=<

These are even more Konad experiments that I carried out last night, forever in pursuit of the perfect colour and design Konadicure combination.

My toes in toe separators yesterday night while I was Konad-ing them. Photos tomorrow. I've realized that my toenails are really NEVER without nail polish! They are ALWAYS painted, and lately, always Konadicured :D

Today I did Jia Yee's special Konadicure on my right hand for photography reasons. Behold...

The nails I've chosen as Jia Yee's birthday nails! Gold and purple to match her gold dress. Actually, I'm still only 50% decided about the Konad print to use.

Please do not plagiarize my Konadicures!!

Talking about plagiarizing, kindly refrain from asking me how I decorated my blog. I've already very generously provided all the necessary information about the websites that I used, and if you're really keen, you can go figure out how to do it on your own, because that's what I did.

I happen to have worked hard on it and planned for many days and had to learn how to do all of it on my own. It's the fruits of MY labour and I WILL NOT spoonfeed instructions to anybody. I'm sorry, but if you're looking for the simple and easy way to get a nice layout, I suggest www.blogskins.com.

I really appreciate that you guys like it though! Feels very rewarding :)

Sigh, I found out today that Dollhouse, my current favourite TV show got CANCELLED!!! The second season that I'm watching now is going to be last season! :( :( The official reason is low viewer ratings. NOOOO!!! WHYYY?? I'm so super depressed!! I love Dollhouse <=(

Tomorrow is Friday the 13th! And also Ya Wen, gay guy sex change drag queen Miss America ba zhang Bruneian scholar's 16th birthday :D Public service message brought to you by me!

In honour of Friday the 13th, I'm going to Munibah's house tomorrow night to watch horror movies. Yay!! Who wants to join us??

P/S: I newly added a search box in my sidebar on top of my archives. Looking for a specific item in my blog? Well, finding it just got a lot easier!

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Now this is what I call an UPGRADE!

Obviously, the first thing you'll notice about my blog today is that it looks very different! I spent the last few days preparing for a redecoration and I finally put the finishing touches and implemented it today, which was why those who visited my blog earlier could not view it.

And I'm going to describe it all to you in detail because I'm just so kind! Sharing is caring. And also 'cause I want you to know how much bloody hard work I put into it. But I think this might only be enjoyable for fellow enthusiastic bloggers :D

Of course, the background is new. It's from a wonderful blogging tools website I stumbled upon called The Cutest Blog on the Block, created by 2 friends who are moms, Becky and Ashley. They've got the hugest variety of backgrounds, something for everyone.

And I no longer have that ugly and annoying Blogger navigation bar at the top of my blog! Definitely a cool trick.

I made a signature-divider combo to put between each of my posts. The divider is from the awesome Shabby Blogs (Megan Hastings is a goddess!) and the font downloaded free from Kevin and Amanda, which has so many cute fonts and useful blog customizing tutorials.

I also turned my post and sidebar titles into a chio custom font that looks kinda like my handwriting! They're also from Kevin and Amanda and I learnt how to do it from there too. It took me a whole 3 hours to do it because the process is so complicated and the website used loads so damn slowly.

The matching custom sidebar divider I put in is made from a flower button and polka-dotted ribbon and then edited and joined together, both taken from Kevin and Amanda.

I changed my sidebar babble button to a framed chalkboard style, and added a new animated blinkie which features one of my favourite quotes, both also courtesy of Shabby Blogs.

I added pop-up taglines to all the clickable icons in my sidebar so now you'll know what you're clicking on. You'll get what I mean if you hover over them with your cursor.

I changed that horrible ugly orange B (Blogger) icon on the browser titlebar to a cute pink queen crown! Another very cool trick to know.

And last but not least, I added a cute little birdy Twitter button edited to match my blog colours in my Twitter column, from Twitter Buttons.

I hope you guys like it! :) And a proper blog post is coming tomorrow, I promise. I have like... around 10 more really awesome posts in the pipelines that need to be prepped and published. I'm not stopping anytime soon!

Revamped.

Tada, I've given my blog another face lift! Ahead of schedule too! Was getting bored of my previous blogskin already. A downside to this whole 'rediscovering my love for blogging' thing is that I get bored of the appearance of my blog way too fast. I also tweet a lot less now... something my followers will probably be happy about anyway!

And know what? It's the 9th of September 2009! 09-09-09. Which also happens to coincidentally be my uncle and aunt's 10 year wedding anniversary. They got married on 09-09-99. Wonder what kind of cool wedding date I can have!

I don't usually get emo on this blog because it's for public consumption, but...

I've come to a point in my life where I no longer recognize the girl looking back at me in the mirror, or in photos. Who is she? She doesn't look like me... she's pretty, confident, sexy, glamorous... none of the things I am. When did I, the ugly duckling, turn into her, the swan?

*Christina Aguilera music begins to play in the background*
Who is that girl I see,
Staring straight back at me...?

Me, Maria and Jia Yee were talking the other day about how time flies so fast, and it still feels like the millenium just only began. When in reality, it was almost 10 years ago. We faced the fact that one day we would be old like our parents, our teenage kids would think our clothes are fugly and that Lady Gaga was SO last century. And that's hard to deal with, y'know?

For the exact reason that time goes by so fast, I really do want to live like there's no tomorrow, and love like I've never been hurt.

Predictability and unpredictability.

Like I said, I went to watch The Final Destination with Jan, Lennard and Jia Yee yesterday. We bumped into a whole bunch of other people there, like Fadli, Pearl, Lilian, Andric, Boon Yu, Bae Wei, Vincent... even Joshua Chin. (Sorry if you were there, and I forgot to include your name.)

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The movie was sick man. I forgot how shockingly gruesome Final Destination movies are. So gory and bloody! Gross man. It was also super predictable la, as expected. I think the people sitting in front of us wanted to kill me 'cause I spent the whole movie loudly (and accurately) predicting how each of the characters was gonna die. That was when I wasn't covering my eyes or screaming or swearing like a truck driver la.

Jan took the cake though. His choice of swear words each time somebody died was so colourful, and such a consistent flow too. Jia Yee also got freaked out and Lennard was trying to act like a tough guy in the corner. I could secretly tell the guys were scared too!

Then after the movie we went to eat fondue at Swensen's. Jia Yee brought her new DSLR (!!!) so it basically turned into one big photoshoot. DSLRs are the Holy Grail of camwhoring!! I also went to Amicion to check if the aviators I want are still there (they are!) and to see the Konad Stamping Nail Art, which looked super cool.

So... time to show off our photography skills! These are 50 of my favourite picks from the 127 photos we took, together with captions. If you want to see all of them, go to Jia Yee's Facebook album. If you're not interested, scroll right down.

Photobucket
Jia Yee's DSLR, not the most convenient thing to camwhore with, but still makes for an awesome time.

The other shocking thing (this one not predictable at all) happened when we were going home. Jia Yee's blabbed it to everyone already anyway, so I might as well blog about it. Me and Jia Yee were waiting outside the Mall for my mom to pick me up after Jan and Lennard left, when a strange guy I didn't recognize walked up to me.

At first I thought he was lost or something, but then he says excuse me and proceeds to politely ask for my phone number! Like, whatta?! I must've stood there like a gaping idiot, and I can only imagine what Jia Yee's expression was next to me! And then I said no. 'Cause like I didn't even know him, and it was so unexpected! He wasn't a poklen or anything...

Gotta give him credit though, it must've taken a lot of guts to just go up to a girl and ask for her number... unless he does that all the time la. And at least he didn't just oggle at me and whistle and shout "hello, hello!" like the poklens. Maybe I should've said yes. Ahaha, I kid, I kid.

Jia Yee said she saw his friends further away watching us and looking at me, then she scolded me for wearing a miniskirt :S I always wear miniskirts okay, and this doesn't usually happen. Omg, such an unbelievably weird and unnerving experience!

I need to stop being caught off-guard. It's screwing up my life. And I'm not even talking about that guy who asked for my number anymore...

P/S: I changed my hit counter to a new and improved very super canggih one, all the better to stalk you (my blog readers) with! It has all kinds of snazzy stalking tools that I'm gonna enjoy using! I can find out all the details down to your location, your operating system, your browser, your monitor resolution, your internet type, what time you viewed my blog, how long you stayed at my blog... Mwahahahaha! :D
